On the 5th of May Photonics Scotland hosted the first online meeting of its Optical Design Special Interest Group. The group, set up in 2018, is a forum for experts and enthusiasts in optical design, providing an opportunity to share knowledge and discuss challenges affecting this area.
In the first online version of the group, attendees heard presentations on The Interface Between Electro-optics and Optical Design (Tracey Skivington, Electro-Optics Consultant, Thales) and System Requirements & Optical Design (Steve Lee, CEO, Caledonian Photonics). Ally McInroy (CEO, Technology Scotland) then presented some initial data from the Photonics Scotland Baseline survey.
Discussion then turned to recent engagement between Photonics Scotland and the National Manufacturing Institute Scotland (NMIS), in particular the opportunity for the Manufacturing Skills Academy (MSA) to support Scotland’s photonics sector.
Photonics Scotland will be running a joint webinar with NMIS on 2nd June, 1130-1230. As well as being a chance to hear more about NMIS and the MSA, this webinar will be an opportunity to highlight where you believe the academy is best placed to support the sector. This will precede more formal engagement exercise to follow in the coming weeks.
