In 2019, Photonics Scotland published its paper, ‘Photonics in Scotland: A vision for 2030. The paper highlighted a series of recommendations that will support a vision to treble the size of Scotland’s photonics sector by the end of this decade.

In order to achieve this growth it is clear that there must be a strong focus on maintaining and growing the skills pool in Scotland, from feeding the talent pipeline through our schools, colleges and universities, to developing our existing workforce through continuous professional development.

Against this backdrop, Photonics Scotland has been exploring opportunities to leverage existing programmes to support the sector.

Photonics Scotland recently held a webinar with the National Manufacturing Institute of Scotland (NMIS) as an opportunity for Scottish Photonics companies to learn about how the photonics sector could benefit from the development of the new NMIS and its Manufacturing Skills Academy(MSA).

Photonics Scotland and the team at NMIS are keen to engage with the photonics industry across Scotland to understand their skills need and identify training demand. As a result, we have put together a short survey to collate the views of the companies operating in the sector.

The survey will take around 5 minutes to complete and looks to understand the current manufacturing skills and training needs of the sector, providing an opportunity for you to identify where you believe NMIS and its Manufacturing Skills Academy would be best placed to support the Scottish Photonics sector as a whole.

It’s vital that we hear from as many companies as possible in order to ensure a complete understanding of the needs of the sector. This is your opportunity to influence how the programmes within the MSA could be structured.

This survey will close on Friday 28th August.
